5 Bold Spiritual Books with Scientific Backing

If spirituality isn’t a hoax, where’s the proof? I hear you. So, here are 5 pioneer spiritual books with scientific backing.

“If spirituality isn’t a hoax, where’s the proof?”

“Where is this heaven you all keep talking about?”

“Karma? Prove it!”

I hear you. So, I want you to give these questions a real chance to be answered.

Here are 5 books with compelling insights into spirituality, with scientific backing. Don’t believe me? Read them for yourself.

#1 – Return to Life, by Dr. Jim B. Tucker

Over fifteen years of research were put into this book. Hopping from one country to another, Dr. Jim B Ticker alongside Dr. Ian Stevenson scientifically investigated the ‘strange’ phenomenon that children still have memories of their past lives.

Girl, Swing, Rock, Skyline, Skyscraper, Past Life Recollection, Spiritual Books with scientifc backing

Funds were raised, documentaries were made; Return to Life is no less than a thriller!

There are stunning pieces of evidence, such as famous people being reborn, humans being ‘possessed’, animals being reborn as humans, psychic powers, near-death experiences, and much more.

#2 – Many Lives, Many Masters, by Dr. Brian Weiss

First published in 1988, this book on Past Life Regression still hasn’t been ‘debunked’. As a matter of fact, many organizations have gone ahead to set up their own practices and teach regression to the masses. Dr. Brian himself continues to conduct past life regression on countless audiences and leaves everyone stunned.

What starts off as a case of clinical psychology takes a fun twist of fate. Not just because Dr. Brian’s patient, Catherine, is supposedly seeing her past lives, but also because the Masters from the ‘beyond’ start talking through Catherine to Dr. Brian. This case study provides shocking evidence of their existence.

Angel, Clouds, Fantasy, Heaven, Sky

There is a lot more to take away in terms of healing and embracing our life in a new way. And it was this book that inspired me to get my own past life regression done. More on that, another time!

There are several books to follow his works, but Many Lives Many Masters is his first and perhaps the most unconventional on this subject.

#3 – Proof of Heaven, by Dr. Eben Alexander

While other books talk about others’ experiences, this is actually the account of a doctor who had a Near Death Experience. But not on some casual level.

This doctor’s illness had led him to his deathbed and his treatment was failing him. Meanwhile, other doctors had given up.

Fantasy, Wanderer, Sculpture, Monument, Dream, Near Death Experience

We’re all looking for a true ‘miracle’ and in today’s age and date, this might be the miracle that changes your worldview for good. But where is the scientific backing? Proof of Heaven extensively explains how the healing and recovery he underwent has no explanation in medical science, till this date!

#4 – Journey of Souls, by Dr. Michael Newton

Another psychiatrist set out to explore what happens between lives, or “after-death”.

This is a complimentary yet distinct study from Dr. Brian’s works. Here, you will find heavy(at times, intimidating) introspection for profound questions like – what happens after we die? What happens before we’re born? Why do we have challenging lives, and how do we actually opt for them?

Wintry, Reindeer, Boy, Fairytale, Spiritual books with scientific backing

Also, how soulmates find their way back to each other, what ‘heaven’ looks like, the truth about spirit guides, etc. A lot of my own initial metaphysical understanding was strengthened by reading Journey of Souls.

#5 – Power of Your Subconscious Mind, by Dr. Joseph Murphy

It is one thing to say we are in control of our destiny, but it is another to prove it. Decades of case studies and a life-changing explanation are provided on how you too, can manifest the kind of life you want regardless of the extent of your current problems.

Psychology, Psyche, Mask, Wire Rack

I have read many books on the Law of Attraction and manifestation, but this was the only one that brought results. The techniques are thorough and require not much investment, other than a couple minutes before bedtime.

Another unique thing about this book is, it approaches the Subconscious Mind through psychology, but if you are observant enough, you will notice the subtlety with which Dr. Murphy integrates spirituality into his practice.

Concluding Thoughts

This list is not limited to these publications only, of course. There are countless research papers, and other great books going deeper into this thing called ‘Spirituality’. And I’m sure such scientific backing is enough to silence our doubts.

Even if you aren’t completely convinced, it is my truest belief that you will be stirred and given something new to think about.

5 Spiritual Books Everyone Should Read!

The Spiritual world has a lot to offer, and these are 5 enthralling books that give you a first taste of a ‘soul experience’.

Here’s my list of 5 must-read spiritual books: independent of any one God, open to criticism, giving readers goosebumps, and hopefully answering some questions about the ‘soul’.

These were the books that I read along the first few months of my awakening and that really helped put the journey into perspective. And so, I hope you will enjoy them just as much!

#1 – Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr. Brian Weiss

This was where my journey began. I picked this book up at the airport on a whim, and by the time I reached home from the flight, my life had changed. This work is worth your attention because it’s written by a psychiatrist who’s just as skeptical about writing it, as the reader reading it.

What does he talk about? Past lives! So, he discovers answers to questions like – do we really reincarnate? Why do we have unexplained fears or likings towards places and people? How does hypnosis work, and is it safe to undergo such therapy? It also reveals fascinating information from the souls that are guiding us from above, whom the author calls Masters.

I was so fascinated and inspired, I went for a past life regression myself! Here are my experiences from the time.

Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr Brian Weiss, Must Read

Many Lives, Many Masters is a compelling read, because you get a good mixture of psychological therapies, healing, and some respite from the countless questions we ask about life and why things are the way they are.

The best part is that even after decades, the book is changing millions of lives, and has compelling evidence scientifically proving the existence of life beyond life. Here are some other reading recommendations for anyone seeking ‘evidence’ that spirituality is real.

#2 – Illusions by Richard Bach

The disclaimer on this book by the author was: it’s up to you to believe if this is a true story or not. Regardless of whether this book is based on a true story, or a spiritual fiction, it’s a classic in its own space.

illusions by richard bach, Spiritual Books

In short, it’s an account of an enlightened “Master”. Except he isn’t walking around like the Buddha, enlightening other people. He’s quite low-key about it. And, he’s actually quite mischievous, as he goes about bending the rules of the 3D world!

He’s mystical in his ways, and keeps a book of spiritual secrets, which he slowly reveals to the author through the course of this book. Book-ception, ha!

Short but influential writing. There are many hidden truths in this spiritual book. If you’ve enjoyed the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, you’ll surely love this one.

#3 – Journey of Souls by Michael Newton

Another psychiatrist set out to explore what happens between lives, or after-death. It is complementary to yet distinct from Dr. Brian’s book and makes a great read if you want more clarity on metaphysical questions.

Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, Spiritual Books

In Journey of Souls, you will find heavy (at times, intimidating) introspection for profound questions like –

  • what happens after we die,
  • what happens before we’re born,
  • why we have challenging lives and how we actually opt for them,
  • how soulmates find their way back to each other,
  • what ‘heaven’ looks like,
  • the truth about spirit guides, etc.

The fascinating thing is, the book is a collection of credible and validated case studies from dozens of patients who, in ‘Superconscious’ state, began to talk about similar experiences of the afterlife. As a result, Dr. Newton’s work was pioneering and revolutionised the approach to metaphysical reality.

#4 – Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch (Part 1)

Okay, so we’ve discussed past lives and between lives. What about this life? One day, the author of my next recommended spiritual book began automatic-writing. The conversation was literally, with God!

Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch, Spiritual Books

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its humorous and impartial perspective.

One thing this book taught me is – God doesn’t get offended! So, mock him, or love him, he’s all the same. But, it will shake your core religious beliefs, and if you’re an atheist, it might even convert you to a fan of the Universe.

Conversations with God works beautifully to move you from a God-fearing and Karma-fearing to a God-loving and Karma-appreciating person. It also makes you stop resenting God, and take up responsibility for your actions in life. Empowering, funny and revolutionary!

This is a powerful series with 4 parts and you might just end up reading through all of them.

#5 – The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer

While the previous spiritual books in the list are research-based, somewhat scientific, and take longer to accept, this one is grounding, through daily, practical outlook-changes. A practical approach to spirituality.

What I enjoyed the most about this book are the analogies! This guy knows how to break things down for you. He does this by giving you a lot of easy practices to try – how to push your own buttons, how to accelerate your spiritual understanding, how to truly heal.

A great deal of explanation is provided on key concepts such as detachment, surrendering, and even the Tao way!

Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer, Spiritual Books

The Untethered Soul isn’t meant to be finished in one go. But if you give it time to sink in, it will transform your life. Therefore, timeless and essential for every person on the Spiritual path who’s learning to deal with their ‘monkey mind’.

I enjoyed this book so much, my clients and I have been doing group discussions on some of the extracts. If you’d like to be a part of the conversation, do join us!

Michael continues to inspire the world with his teachings, and my newly found admiration is for his youtube video, where he simplifies the different types of yoga and talks about becoming a Karma Yogi.

Concluding Thoughts

While there are many great spiritual books out there, these books have set the foundation of my own journey in the first year of my spiritual awakening. If you’d like to check out more of my recommendations, here are my other book reviews :
