I came undone. I am not quite sure when it happened. Was it after seeing my country’s guests shackled and jailed? Or my neighbours ridiculed? Or the sheer accumulation of having to deal with the world’s darkness?
It’s difficult to pinpoint, but it did result in typing up a one-pager of outrage, overflowing with anger and blame, then sending it out to my friends. Of course, it landed flat.
So, negativity was not the right approach–I knew better.
I often look around in utter amazement as we move about in daily life, almost as normal—until or unless the turmoil, systemic abuses, and widespread corruption touch us directly. For those of us who are spiritually attuned, harm done to others, especially families and children, colours everything continuously. Looking away is not possible.
A born problem-solver, I sought answers from the world’s greatest leaders–what would they do? Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, 14th Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Eleanor Roosevelt. I am sure you can add to this list with your favourites. Their common leadership threads can provide clues for a spiritual path forward.
Never mimic harmful tactics.
Trust in the long game.
Remember who you are–always.
Stay calm, clear, and connected with others.
I believe having a spiritual lens is pivotal to confront this level of darkness. Each of us has the ability to share our divine spiritual light. We have the free will and means to do it.
Here is how we begin.
First, Recognize Your Power
This was not always a given for me. The religious doctrine I grew up with focused on guilt and sin. Revealing that we each have a divine spiritual light within simply did not occur.
It was not until I recently read Merchants of Light by Betty Kovács, PhD, anthropologist, that I learned sacred wisdom, once lost, is now being remembered. The following video elaborates on this.
Our ancestors left us the most important gift—knowledge of who we are and why we are here.
As far back as the Stone Age, around 40,000 BCE, their message was clear: we are immortal, divine, and creative beings.
An ancient seal depicting the cosmic Tree of Life, abundant with the fruit of higher consciousness, is one of numerous storytelling artifacts she discovered.
Today, we are being called to remember what was once known: that we are not powerless in the face of suffering. You have access to abundance. You can use your power by choosing to extend your spiritual light to become a channel of healing, hope, and love.
This is the essence of the ancient message, awakened anew in our time.
Then, Share Your Spiritual Light
A great deal of spiritual resources can be found online and in books these days, to help you get in touch with your light. You can explore and then create your own mini library, as I have, or as Vasundhra lists on this blog.
Let your light ripple outward with intention and grace. The following practices can become sacred rituals, contributing to global healing and inner peace–use your spiritual light to replace the darkness.
#1- Begin by setting the intention
Use this or something similar: “I am sharing my spiritual light for the highest good.”
It keeps our actions pure and aligned, honouring the spiritual journeys of others without interfering in any lessons they may be processing through darkness.
As painful as it is, the darkness we encounter and try to deal with in this world is often necessary for soul growth.
Walking through it—facing it with courage and compassion—can lead to profound awakening and enlightenment for our soul.
I know this path intimately, as I go down it, caring for my husband with dementia. Along the way, we grieve what we once had.
#2 – Visualize and Send Light
I use this simple practice throughout each day. It readily allows for sending your spiritual light anytime, anywhere, which I like.
Close your eyes and center yourself in stillness. From your heart, imagine a radiant, bright light extending outward—gentle yet powerful.
Allow your light to surround those in need, such as people in war zones, living in extreme poverty, or any place where suffering is felt. Offer them Love, Healing, and Protection.
Trust that your light will reach where it is needed.
#3 – Practice Loving-Kindness with Metta Meditation
This is an ancient meditative practice that cultivates compassion. You can read more about the Metta Meditation here.
You can send affirmations to yourself:
May I be happy.
May I be well.
May I be safe.
May I be peaceful and at ease.
Then extend them to others:
May you be happy.
May you be well.
May you be safe.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
This cultivates compassion and connects you energetically to the world.
#4 – Meditation for Gaia or Mother Earth
From the quiet space of your heart, send love to the Earth. Feel your energy flow into her people, oceans, forests, and animals. Visualize harmony being restored, balance returning to the planet’s body. Visualize your energy flowing into the planet, nourishing and harmonizing all life.
Our spiritual light is pure.
It is intelligent.
It knows where to go.
Concluding Thoughts
We are in the midst of unprecedented global turning points and crises. This may be a sacred invitation for those of us who are spiritually aware to share your spiritual light as a conscious attempt to deal with the world’s shadows and darkness.
Be comforted knowing our light is powerful.
I encourage you to spread your loving light–to uplift those near you and those around the globe.
There’s a reason we’re here, now, at this exact moment in time.
Frances Crotty
I live in Bloomington, Minnesota, United States. Since a young age, I’ve had an inner knowing that I was to help uplift those in other parts of the world. This laid the foundation for my volunteer efforts in Nepal, Cambodia, Guatemala, Eswatini, and Nigeria, focused on solar energy and income generation. My professional path began in IT support, then later, environmental work at a government agency.
Yet much of my heart’s energy is devoted to exploring the mysteries of the spiritual world. You can reach me at fcrotty360@gmail.com.
