Psychic Attacks (Nazar) – How to Recognize and Protect Yourself

It feels quite ironic that I’m writing about psychic attacks today because there was a point in my journey when a well-meaning guide told me, “you’re supposed to help people in this way.” My reaction? I ran in the opposite direction!

A part of me still feels nervous sharing all this “woo-woo” in public. After all, I’m a former computer science graduate…. not exactly the stereotype for mystical, intuitive topics. And yet, after working with multiple clients on these challenges in just the last few months, the nudge from the Universe has been too strong to ignore.

So here I am, sharing not just the theory but also my lived experience with psychic attacks, or what we call nazar in my culture.

My Encounters with Nazar

I’ve always been highly susceptible to the “evil eye.” From a young age, I’ve often fallen sick after being around certain people. The most vivid and recent memory was just before my wedding.

A relative visited two days before the big day. Within an hour of being around her, I was struck by extreme weakness and bedridden for over 24 hours. At one point, I wasn’t even sure I’d make it to my wedding.

Thankfully, my mom knew exactly what to do. She burned camphor at our altar, moved it around the house, and then circled it around my aura. Within hours, my strength began returning – and fast. Oh and yes, I did attend my wedding, in full glory!

What do you think of this dramatic shot from our day?!

Looking back, I’m grateful that both my mom and grandmother understood and respected these unseen energies. But not everyone did. Most others dismissed my experience entirely.

Here’s the truth: when you’ve been on the receiving end of a psychic attack, no matter how analytical your mind is, something deep inside you knows it’s not just “in your head.”

If you’ve ever been dismissed after sharing your story, I want you to know this: your experience is valid. If someone hasn’t lived it, they’re not the right person to judge it.

So, what is a Psychic Attack?

A psychic attack happens when someone’s negative energy – often jealousy, envy, or hatred – is so strong that it affects our mind or body. Note that there’s nothing the soul can be “damaged” by, so from a spiritual sense, nazar can only temporarily delay what we’re meant to have.

I dare go as far as saying, the nazar is a part of our soul contract! We’re meant to learn to use our discernment around people, as well as learn how to take better care of our mind, body and energy.

Common Signs of a psychic attack

Usually, it’s the unexplained stuff. The more you see it, the more you’ll recognize there’s a difference between day-to-day stuff and nazar getting the best of us.

Also, it’s worth classifying here – there are two main types of nazar that we can fall prey to:

  1. Intentional Psychic Attacks
These involve a deliberate attempt to send “bad vibes” or even using tools and objects (black magic). For example, I’ve discovered strange black stones or items in my home that didn’t belong to me. My intuition told me to cleanse and discard them.
  2. Unintentional Psychic Attacks
These are unconscious. Someone may not want to harm you, but their intense jealousy, envy, or negativity spills over and impacts you. For example:
    • Facing a series of obstacles after you share some good news (talk about social media nazar!)
    • Falling sick right after receiving a compliment
    • Feeling drained or heavy after being around a certain person
    • Getting into fights with your loved ones over no reason, after someone has just seen your positive relationship.

3 Tips to Prevent Nazar

The best defence is prevention – strengthening our energy so we don’t absorb others’ negativity. I like to think of it in the following ways:

1) Be in your body

When your awareness is fully in your body, nothing else can “enter.” Try:

2) Protect your energy

While our soul doesn’t need protection (it’s indestructible), our body and mind do. Protection here means creating intentional shields for our physical, emotional, and mental body.

Some practices you can try out include:

3) Use these kitchen remedies

When prevention isn’t enough, here are four easy remedies I’ve used for myself and clients:

1. Salt

2. Lemon

3. Rice

4. Red Chilli Peppers (dried)

Going Deeper

Some people choose to have certain soul guides, such as Goddess Kali at the altar, or facilitate sacred ceremonies such as havans to help keep their home and health clear. You may even get a talisman (called a yantra in my culture) designed based on your birthchart; usually, they’re made of precious metals, and several rounds of chanting are done upon the talisman by highly revered priests to instill protection.

The bottom line is, psychic attacks are real, whether intentional or unintentional. But they don’t have to control us. With awareness, grounding, and protective tools, you can reclaim your energy and move through life with greater ease.

Have you ever experienced a psychic attack? What did you do to overcome it? I’d love to hear your story and tips in the comments.
