Throughout the Chakras Explained Series, we have been discussing ways to recognize if your chakras are out of alignment, how to balance them and the nitty gritty science of the Chakra System. Today, we talk about the fourth Chakra, the Anahata.

The essence of the heart energy is explained using the following categories:

5 Facts About The Anahata Chakra

#1 – Heart Chakra

The easiest to locate – at the center of your chest! The Heart Chakra is the fourth energy center in the Chakra System, and connects your lower chakras to the higher chakras.

#2 – Psychological & Emotional Associations

#3 – Relationship with Physical Body

The Anahata is linked to the circulatory system in our physical body, along with the lungs, arms and hands too.

#4 – Relationship with Diet

Your Heart Chakra is the energy center of balance and being neutral. It is therefore associated to chemically neutral foods that bring a balance between the higher and lower energies.

#5 – Examples of an Imbalanced Heart Chakra
  • Lack of Compassion
Have you ever suddenly, felt emotionless or disconnected from somebody’s pain? Or felt a lack of empathy for problems? Yup. That’s a telltale sign of a blocked heart.
  • Loving Too Much
On the contrary to the point above, are you often told you wear your heart on your sleeve, that you give too much, or love too much? There’s a good chance that your Heart Chakra is overstimulated.
  • Denial
If you are constantly trying to change things, or resisting reality, it indicates the possibility of a blocked Anahata.
  • Imbalance In Daily Life
Struggling to find the right balance between work and play, between family and career, between dieting and binging, and so forth. Yup – all signs.

Chakras Explained (#3) : Manipura – Solar Plexus Chakra

A detailed and simplified explanation of the Manipura chakra, the signs of an unbalanced solar plexus, and how you can balance your energy centers.

The third post in the Chakras Explained Series is about the Manipura Chakra. The blog post is divided into the following descriptions about the third energy center :

5 Facts About The Manipura Chakra

#1 – Solar Plexus Chakra

Your belly button, the navel is where the solar plexus is centered.

Solar Plexus, Third Chakra, Energy Centers, Navel, Belly Button, Flower, Body, Heart Shape with Hands,
#2 – Psychological & Emotional Associations

The Solar Plexus Chakra focuses on self-definition and personal power. So, psychologically, the third chakra denotes your Right to Act.

When you feel powerful, you will take more meaningful actions. When you feel helpless or lacking confidence, you will lose your ability to act.

#3 – Relationship with Physical Body

Because your solar plexus is about self-definition, this is also the reason you cross your arms around yourself when you’re in a position that makes you feel like you’re giving your power away.

The internal organs which are associated and affected by the energy center are the digestive system, gallbladder and liver.

#4 – Relationship with Diet

The third chakra is fueled by starch-based foods.

#5 – Examples of an Imbalanced Solar Plexus
  • Procrastination
If you are constantly delaying or resisting life-changes, it is the sign of inertia, and an unbalanced solar plexus. And an otherwise balanced third chakra demonstrates higher will power and a go-go-go movement.
  • Submissive
The inability to stand in your own Light, and to be easily dominated by others, is a sign of a weak solar plexus.
  • Uncertainty
    Constantly seeking validation from others.
    Relying on other people’s advice.
Becoming spiritually obsessed with daily tarot readings.
These are all repercussions when your solar plexus is out of alignment.
  • Pot Belly
A bloated center (overstimulated), or in contrast, a sunken diaphragm (understimulated) are indicators that the power play in your energy center is off balance.
Fat, Obese, Obesity, Weight, Heavy, Solar Plexus, Manipura
  • Poor Metabolism
Excess weight, the inability to digest food, metabolism all indicate an unbalanced Manipura.

Questions To Evaluate Your Manipura Chakra’s Health

Your answers to the following questions will help you self-assess the health of your Manipura Chakra, and if you’re in need to work on balancing this energy center.

  • How energetic are you?
  • Is your digestion and metabolism good?
  • Are you confident?
  • Are you easily dominated?
  • Do people consider you dependable?

5 Ways to Balance the Solar Plexus Chakra

If you have identified that there is a need to balance your Manipura Chakra, take a look at the following tips.

#1 – Meditate on the Chakra’s color, yellow, and its shape.

#2 – Work on your behavior.

Here are the key things worth working on :

  • Do something different.
Be conscious about being lazy, and break yourself away from inertia by doing small activities that get you going. Especially patterns that create a mundane routine – these are the biggest enemy of your third chakra.
  • Laugh. A lot! And often.
Ever seen Sadhguru laugh, how his belly moves? This is the kind of hearty, belly laugh you need to have every day, in order to get your blocked solar plexus churning out some fresh energy again!
Children, River, Water, The Bath, Splash, Laugh, Have fun, Positive
  • Start closing the loop on activities.
People, plans and destiny change – and if you’re no longer seeing result for something, be mindful of when it’s the right time to leave. Being hung-up on things that do not bring you results for long periods will overtime bring a huge blow on your self-esteem.
  • Practice Self-love.
So this is where all the new-agey self-love and self-care talks come from. Taking care of your physical, mental, spiritual well-being are all a part of your duty to self, as are these 7 daily practices.
#3 – Wear or carry crystals like Amber and Topaz.

I purchased my crystals through an online vendor, R. R. Sheikh through Amazon. I can vouch for their authenticity, pricing and the healing capacity of the crystals from personal experience. So if you’re looking for a good shop, try them out.

#4 – Practice Karma Yoga

To be a Karma Yogi takes a certain kind of inner awareness and calm, that Michael Singer explains beautifully and simply. But for a good place to start, here are some basic yoga exercises to balance your Manipura Chakra :

  • Bow Pose (Dhanurasana)
  • Woodchopper, also great to help blow of steam
  • Stomach Crunches (yes, seriously)
#5 – Foods to Support the Solar Plexus

A diet rich in whole grain foods will help your body and the third energy center. And on the other hand, too much of easily processed food (like sugar) will inturn imbalance the solar plexus.

Spoon, Fork, Cutlery, Icing Sugar

Concluding Thoughts

The chakra system is completely related to day-to-day life. And even if we never knew we were balancing our chakras by certain basic activities, indeed it’s happening.

So, now the objective should be to reach higher stages of balance. And, it only takes a little knowledge to start balancing your energy centers consciously.

So just as is the message of the Solar Plexus – get started!

Chakras Explained (#2) : Svadhishthana – Sacral Chakra

An extensive guide about the Svadhishthana chakra with a self-assessment quiz to check if your sacral is unbalanced, & tips on how to balance the chakras.

Part two in the Chakras Explained Series, let’s get right into everything you need to know about the Svadhishthana Chakra.

Table of Contents

5 Facts About The Svadhishthana Chakra

#1 – Sacral Chakra

The Svadhishthana is the second chakra in our energy system, and is located at the lower abdomen region of your physical body. It is also known as the Sacral energy center.

#2 – Psychological & Emotional Associations

The Sacral Chakra focuses on self-gratification. So, conversely, our emotions of guilt linger in the sacral chakra region.

This is the chakra where our duality originates – the yin and yang, the masculine and feminine energies, the ida and pingala. It is also the chakra center of feelings, emotions and sensitivity.

Grimace, Funny, Expression, Mask, Happy, Emotions, Sacral Chakra, Svadhishthana

Psychologically, this chakra relates to your Right to Feel. Clairsentience, the psychic ability to be in-tune with other people’s emotions is centered here.

#3 – Relationship with Physical Body

In the physical body, the Svadhishthana associates with the genital area, lower back, kidney and bladder.

#4 – Relationship with Diet

Liquid, and in particular water is the dietary element for the Svadhishthana. For this reason, it is also called the water chakra.

#5 – Examples of an Imbalanced Sacral Chakra
  • Urinary Problems
Urine infections, bladder problems or kidney stones, all stem from an imbalance in your sacral energy.
  • Creative Blocks
Artist’s block. Writer’s block. Or in general, lacking creative inspiration. These are all associated to the Svadhishthana.
writer's block, artist's block, stuck, Svadhishthana chakra
  • Sexual Problems
Impotence, low sex-drive or alternately an excessive desire for sex (over-stimulated) are all signs of your sacral chakra being out of balance.

Questions To Evaluate Your Sacral Chakra Health

Take this quick self-assessment to gauge the health of your Svadhishthana Chakra, and if you’re in need to work on balancing this energy center.

  • Are you emotionally sound? If not, you might be easily flustered by emotions.
  • How sexually active is your drive?
  • Does creativity flow easily for you?
  • What is your likelihood of experiencing and holding guilt?
  • Do you often make time for simple, self-gratifying activities?

5 Ways to Balance Your Svadhishthana

If you have identified that there is a need to balance your Svadhishthana, take a look at the following tips.

#1 – Meditate on the Svadhishthana’s color, orange, and its shape.

#2 – Please yourself.

If this made you giggle or repel, right there, you will observe is your block against the purpose of this chakra. We have been taught to think otherwise, that pleasure is bad. And hence the guilt.

But slowly and steadily, with small actions of intent, here are ways to step back into our sacral power :

  • Start allowing yourself small acts of indulgence. But let’s call it self-love, because indulgence once again, gives the feeling of guilt. Do activities that you love, but don’t do enough of because they may not bring you monetary benefit.
Feet, Socks, Living Room, Person, Lazy, Take it easy, do it later, please yourself, relax, self love, self care
  • Express yourself more. Because, a big part of pleasing oneself is listening to our needs. And, journaling is a great way to get in touch with your emotions. Even if you are not vulnerable to the world around you, become open with yourself.
  • It also works well to start expressing yourself to other people more, with gestures like hugs, kisses and holding hands. Or as simple as dropping a loving note, smiling while making eye contact, or giving more compliments.
#3 – Find your inner artist.

Whether you are a writer, painter, dancer or any other type of creative embodiment, it’s but natural to have blocks from time to time. The #1 recommendation I would have for you, is to write Morning Pages every.single.day.

Painter, Artist, Man, Work, Painting, Artist, Inner Child

Also, if you’re very committed to your healing, please do the 12-week Inner Artist exercises from Julia Cameron’s bestseller, The Artist’s Way. This is the book that single-handedly has helped me be the consistent and proactive writer I am today.

Even as you read this, it is safe to assume that I have atleast 4-6 weeks of posts scheduled in advance. No more inhibitions, no more guilt, no more creative blocks.

#4 – Practice Tantra Yoga

Tantra is associated to the Svadhishthana Chakra, and is a whole different discipline worth exploring. However, simpler yogic exercises that stimulate the pelvic region, hips and lower back are beneficial as well, such as :

#5 – Hydrate Yourself

Flush and detox your system, both physically and energetically by consuming more liquid throughout the day. Some people even try juicing cleanses and full-day water cleanses. So, if that’s your cup of spiritual tea, do that too!

Bottle, Mineral Water, Bottle Of Water, Hydrate, H2O, Sacral Chakra, Healing, Miracles, Recovery

Concluding Thoughts

At this point, you should hopefully start seeing the relation between something mystical and otherworldly as chakras, with your actual day to day life.

The Chakra System is meant to be balanced on a daily basis, and we do NOT need to pay a healer to do that for us. We’re well-equipped to do it ourselves, it only takes a little bit of knowing!
