Our human body holds just a fraction of our soul—some say 10–20%—while the rest of our essence remains connected to the spiritual realm, sometimes even living other lives simultaneously. When we speak of the Higher Self, we mean that part of us which isn’t entangled in daily human struggles.
It’s the version of ourselves that is ancient and has wise perspectives for many of our life’s challenges. Through meditation or guided visualization, we can connect with that deeper knowing.
Today, I’d like to share the power of working with our Higher Self, as well as the Higher Selves of others who walk this journey alongside us. Here are three of my own intimate, personal experiences where Higher Self meditation has deeply supported me.
1. Meeting a Family Member’s Higher Self in a Time of Crisis
Some years ago, a close family member was hospitalized with a serious medical condition. I was deeply worried and overwhelmed. My dear friend Kimberley, a gifted writer and apothecaryist, guided me through a profound “cabin meditation.”
In this safe inner space, she invited me to meet my family members’ Higher Self.

What I saw has never left me: a version of them much older, radiantly healthy, and at peace in their journey.
That vision gave me strength at a time when all hope was lost.
It helped me persevere through an incredibly difficult season, reminding me that there is more to someone’s path than the present moment of suffering.
Similarly, I’ve had a humbling exchange with a client who was caregiving for a cancer patient, and through guided meditation, we could see that her Higher Self was ready to “leave”. This visual was painful, but helped her find clarity and part ways with her nephew with much more acceptance that they will meet again.
2. Connecting with My Daughter Before Birth
During my pregnancy, I often returned to one of my favourite places in meditation: my own private and spiritual version of a beautiful hiking trail in North Vancouver, where I could sit peacefully by the water.
In meditation, I began inviting my soul guides into this space—and eventually, my daughter as well.

Through these moments, I felt I was not only connecting with her but also helping her heal.
Dreams of her past lives would arise, sometimes intense and unsettling, but I trusted I was helping her process karmic debts that would allow her to integrate more fully into this human life.
She also guided me in subtle and meaningful ways. For instance, she’d give me ideas on how to help a friend apply for a job (that they’d get) or connect a new author to their dream book store. This was a period where I wasn’t really working anymore, but she was allowing me to be in service in the world through this unique orchestration!
I facilitate similar work for mamas who are pregnant and want to feel assured that their baby is doing well, as well as helping them find their spiritual connection with this soul across the other plane.
3. Remembering Who My Daughter Really Is
Now that she’s here, life is beautifully full—and sometimes overwhelming. My little one is fiery, active, loud, and demanding. On hard days, it’s easy to slip into frustration and forget the deeper bond we share across lifetimes.
In those moments, I return to my meditation cabin and meet her Higher Self.

I see her older, wiser, radiating strength. She reminds me of the vastness and wisdom of her soul, her purpose, her essence beyond the toddler energy.
These meditations help me reconnect with the love beneath the chaos, and they often bring insights that feel far beyond my own imagination. I can’t say it makes her act any differently – after all, she’s just a baby! But it does give me a beautiful lens and guides me on how to show up in better ways for her.
Similarly, with clients, we’ve used Higher Self work to understand especially challenging relationships – sometimes letting go of them or finding ways to repair the damage that’s already been done.
Concluding Thoughts
Tuning into the Higher Self, whether our own or someone else’s, offers clarity that everyday thinking cannot. It helps us see beyond fear and frustration, giving us glimpses of the bigger picture. For me, this practice has been a lifeline in moments of uncertainty, motherhood, and family challenges.
Of course, the experience is unique depending on whose Higher Self we connect with. My own Higher Self feels grounded and steady. My daughter’s Higher Self, on the other hand, is fierce and bold. The energy and the guidance are different, but they can hold their own revered place in our journey.
Have you ever tried connecting with your Higher Self, or someone else’s? If not, would you be open to it? If yes, I would LOVE to formally guide you through this beautiful work! Feel free to connect with me using the link below.
